Spain's best Russian salad 2021 is made at the Tragatá restaurant in Ronda (Málaga)

Daniel Moreno, from Benito Gómez's Tragatá restaurant in Ronda, Málaga, took the award for the 4th San Miguel National Russian Salad Championship on Tuesday at Gastronomika.

The Tragatá version beat off competition from nine other restaurants: Lú Cocina y Alma* (Jerez), Hevia (Madrid), Bar Donald (Sevilla), Kapadokia (San Sebastián), Bar Yeti (Barcelona), Tapas 2.0 (Salamanca), Bar Verónicas (Murcia), Baster (Bilbao) and Casa Rafa (Madrid)

The award will not be leaving Málaga province because Tragatá is taking up the torch from the preceding winner Chinchín Puerto (Caleta de Vélez, Málaga), and from Candado Golf (Málaga), the winner in 2019.

Benito Gómez's Tragatá restaurant (Bardal**, Ronda) took the award for the 4th San Miguel National Russian Salad Championship on Tuesday at San Sebastian Gastronomika – Euskadi Basque Country. With Daniel Moreno's creation, Tragatá is now home to Spain's best Russian salad, taking over from Chinchín Puerto, another temple of the product, also in the province of Málaga.

Tragatá convinced an exceptional jury panel of chefs and journalists such as Martin Berasategui, José Carlos Capel, Mikel Ubarretxen, Belén Abad (chef at Chinchín Puerto), Julia Pérez, Carlos Maribona, Luis Enriquez and Alejandra Sumassi.

This makes Tragatá the best place for Russian salad in Spain, the only tapa - with apologies to potato tortilla - common to the entire country. The jury's runners-up were Lú Cocina y Alma* (Jerez), Hevia (Madrid), Bar Donald (Sevilla), Kapadokia (San Sebastián) Bar Yeti (Barcelona), Tapas 2.0 (Salamanca), Bar Verónicas (Murcia), Baster (Bilbao) and Casa Rafa (Madrid).
